Replace Exterior Bus Mirrors with an Innovative Camera System

Point of view from the driver

Increase safety and save costs for your bus with the MirrorEye camera system from Stoneridge-Orlaco. MirrorEye increases safety by covering a greater field of vision than mirror classes II, IV and V. With a better view, you can drive in comfort and maneuver easily in all traffic situations, thereby increasing safety for the driver and other road users.

Ultimate road safety through a larger field of vision

MirrorEye consists of two high-definition (HD) cameras mounted on the side of a vehicle. These cameras replace the exterior mirrors and cover the statutory mirror classes II and IV. The driver is able to view the camera images in real time on a split-screen HD monitor in the window pillar of the vehicle, granting them the best possible view of road users both next to their vehicle and at an angle to the rear of their vehicle. A driver using the MirrorEye system can see more than when using conventional mirrors, since the cameras cover a larger field of vision. This means that the camera monitoring system increases traffic safety on the road.

Even more safety with CornerEye

MirrorEye can optionally be supplemented with the CornerEye camera system. CornerEye displays the area to the front and side of a bus. A single camera amply covers mirror classes V and VI. The camera’s high sensitivity to light guarantees an optimum image in the dark, and the special coating on the lens ensures a high-quality image even in poor weather conditions. With these features, CornerEye allows you to constantly keep an eye on cyclists and pedestrians at roundabouts, for example, and allows you to easily see around corners at intersections. With better visibility, a bus driver can drive in comfort and maneuver more easily in all traffic situations, thereby increasing safety for the driver, passengers and other road users.

A Razor-Sharp Image at All Times

MirrorEye always provides a sharp and detailed image, even when faced with low sun, rain, snow and dust. The cameras adjust effortlessly between light and dark conditions in tunnels and also offer optimal visibility at night. And thanks to the quality of the night vision function, the driver has a better view of the surrounding night-time traffic compared to conventional mirrors.

HD Images in Real Time

MirrorEye consists of two high-definition camera units that can be mounted using a vehicle-specific interface. The robust cameras are 50G shock and vibration resistant, have the IP69K rating for dust and water resistance and can operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +85°C. The real-time HD images from the cameras are displayed on two 12.3-inch monitors using a split screen.

Maneuverability

Traditional mirrors protrude significantly in front of the vehicle. This is a big difference compared to the MirrorEye camera units, which are installed against the side of the body of the bus. The compact design of MirrorEye thus greatly improves the maneuverability of the bus.

Timesaving

MirrorEye makes mirror adjustment a thing of the past and offers a comfortable working environment for drivers. Thanks to the optimum positioning of the monitors, every driver—regardless of size—will have an excellent view of the HD camera images at all times. A driver can therefore leave immediately, preventing unnecessary delays. Since the monitors are installed in the direct field of vision, uncomfortable rotations of the body and head are no longer necessary.

Cost saving

Thanks to the compact design, the positioning on the body and the enhanced vision, it is easier to avoid damage and improve fleet utilization. In the unlikely event that a camera unit is damaged, it can be replaced easily and quickly thanks to the universal design. In addition, the compact and aerodynamic design means that you can drive more kilometers with the same battery. All of this contributes to a substantial reduction in the total cost of ownership.
